What happens when we disconnect? When we are actually invested in the moment and concerned more with where we are then where we are supposed to be? In this observation I describe what I witnessed happening when I got disconnect, and the calm it brought me.

AMBACHT

Framework for growth

  • The story of AMBACHT is a story of growth: the growth of the building alongside the growth of society and the people in it. The open framework allows materials from residual flows to be applied within. As more materials are harvested from demolition sites, the building can grow.

  • As it is yet unknown what materials will be applied in the building, the framework had to be designed such that it could harbour all materials. This all came together in the details.

  • AMBACHT is a building with a positive footprint. This means that soil, air and water are filtered and purified; the building produces more energy than it needs; residents can grow their own food; and the newly introduced greenery increases local biodiversity.

  • English: craft
    Not all waste materials can directly be applied in the façade, they first have to be processed. To work with these different materials and make them fit the building requires craftsmanship. This idea of craftsmanship is continued in the architecture of the building.
